Birth Of AYCC
Climate change has long-since ceased to be a scientific curiosity, and is no longer just one of many environmental and regulatory concerns. It is the major, overriding environmental issue of our time, and the single greatest challenge facing environmental regulators. It is a growing crisis with economic, health and safety, food production, security, and other dimensions. The news to date is bad and getting worse. The participants of the “Youth Training Workshop on Climate Change” and the interfaith consultation organized by Asian Resource Foundation (ARF) from 14 Asia Pacific countries namely Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand converged in Bangkok, Thailand during 28-30 September to discuss issues of climate change. They recognized that there is great urgency to take concrete actions to address the causes and consequences of this phenomenon. The Asia Pacific region contains some of the most vulnerable countries to the impact of climate change due to the presence of low-lying islands, the Hindukush Himalayan range, poverty, lack of awareness, knowledge and education, and weak government policies.

Commitment
As youths from these countries, we express our commitment to and solidaritywith the on-going global movement responding to climate change. As part ofthis commitment, we declare our willingness to take the following actions:
  • To establish and expand this youth network to regional and local lr home countries
  • To evolve our behaviors, morality, and life-style to promote low-carbon practices.
  • To conduct programs to increase mitigation, resilience and adaptation capacity among the people most vulnerable to the consequences of climate change
  • To lobby and pressurize national governments to institute regulations that ensure socially responsible practices by polluting industries and to develop policies to promote green
